Nostalgic leather by Nutsa Modebadze

               Nutsa Modebadze is a talented designer from Moscow, Russia. She mainly uses leather. She makes all kinds of bags, wallets, shoes and accessories such as lovely bow ties. All of them are hand-made and really unique. The way she treats leather gives her designes a bit of an nostalgic, old-fashioned feeling. Sometimes her works remind those old bags, touched by the passage of time, which our great-grandmothers used to have. But they are very modern at the same time with their minimalistic cuts and shapes. You can see more of those beautiful designes at Nutsa Modebadze site. Here are some examples:

Yohji Yamamoto spring/summer 2011

I haven't followed Yohji Yamamoto's works too carefully until this day. The spring / summer 2011 collection blew me away. All  these beautiful witches wearing exquisite dresses. All that blackness raised by intense colours. These shapes and lenghts! Madness. It's absolutely perfect! I want to be a part of this witchery. Now, where are my doc Martens shoes?

"The collection is both bohemian and pagan in spirit. A controlled and technologically advanced environment is rejected in favor of the raw power of nature and a free spirit. The values of hard craftsmanship and the precious quality of found objects are upheld. Construction is light, pieces are intricately worked by hand. Patchwork embroidery, plaited hair, ribbon work, tooled leather, frayed raffia, hand pleated organza, embroidered white work, hand painted feather butterflies, gold bullion, corn dollies, twisted feathers, crochet, hand carved shoes lacquered with a porcelain effect. Each piece highlights the value of handcraft. The silhouette is predominantly soft and slender. Construction is light becoming increasingly elliptical as nature takes its course. Fabric appears almost to fall away from garments, disintegrating to reveal the body beneath. Jackets and tailcoats are cropped and narrow, worn with a low-rise trouser that finishes above the ankle. Gowns are ethereal, in ultra light silks, cotton voiles, chiffons, fille coupe and cotton organdie. An exaggerated hip idealizes the feminine form."

I thought I would die while watching the first collection after Alexander McQueen's death. Well, I didn't die. I'm ok. I'm fine. It's all fine. I hope I won't die during the second one.

The fragility of steel by Gareth Pugh

                The beauty of cyborgs. New era victorian style. Fragility of steel. That’s Gareth Pugh. I'm getting more and more obsessed with him . Yes, he graduated from Central St. Martins about which I can only dream. And yes, it’s obvious to say that he has something from the wilderness of Alexander McQueen’s designs. I always fall in love with those who push boundaries further and further. Those who can see a connection between apparently different  fields and take advantage of combining them. That’s why I have always totally admired everything Alexander McQueen was doing. He was genius in combining things. Fragile victorian cyborgs. The beauty of cold steel. Cyborgs in victorian steel. A new connection between past and future. This is what the new Gareth Pugh spring / summer 2011 collection looks like.  

 

The show must go on.

"SARAH BURTON, the late Alexander McQueen's right-hand design aide, has been named creative director of the London-based fashion house." I've read on vouge.com. Well, I'm kinda sceptic about everyone else besides Alexander McQueen himself. But time will tell. Ok, I'm a little bit curious.
